UD Almería, officially named UD Almería, founded on July 26, 1989, is a professional football club located in Almería, Andalusia, Spain. It was originally called Almería Club until it was renamed Almería Unión Deportiva in 2001.
Before the club's formation, Almería Football Club was founded in 1909. This team played in La Liga from 1979 to 1981, but dissolved in 1982, and can be considered the predecessor of Almería.
On June 28, 2001, the Almería Football Club was approved to change its name at the shareholders' meeting. After playing one season in the second division, the team was eventually relegated to the third and fourth divisions. On June 22, 2013, they defeated Girona Football Club in the playoff and returned to La Liga. After the departure of head coach Javi Gracia, Francisco was appointed as the new head coach, and the team successfully avoided relegation in the 2013-14 season, finishing in 16th place.
Subsequently, the team fluctuated between the Segunda División and the Primera División. After being relegated in the 2014-15 season, they did not return to the Primera División until June 2022, having experienced 7 seasons in the Segunda División. In the 2023-24 season, they were relegated to the Segunda División again.
In May 2025, the club underwent a change of ownership, with the Saudi investment group SMC, led by Mohammed Al-Harbi, acquiring Almería from Turki Al-Sheikh.
