AFC Wimbledon Football Club, founded on May 28, 2002, is a professional football club located in the Merton district of London, England. The club is often referred to as simply "AFC Wimbledon."
Initially competing in the ninth-tier Combined Counties League, the club achieved four promotions in seven seasons and set an English record of 78 league matches without a defeat. In the 2008-09 season, the club won the Southern League Division One and entered the fifth tier. In 2011, they were promoted to League Two through the playoffs. In 2016, they were again promoted to League One through the playoffs, but were relegated back to League Two in the 2021-22 season.
The club also has a women's team and various youth teams. It has won championships in the Southern League, the Isthmian League Division One, and the United Counties League Premier Division. By agreement, the historical honors and memorabilia of the original Wimbledon Football Club have been transferred to the Merton Borough Council for safekeeping, while AFC Wimbledon is considered the continuation of this tradition.
