Everton Football Club (commonly known as Everton), is a professional football club based in Liverpool, England, nicknamed "The Toffees". Founded in 1878 as "St Domingo's", it was renamed Everton in 1879. In 1888, it became a founding member of the Football League and won its first league title in the 1890-91 season, establishing its early position in the football world.
In 1925, the club signed Dixie Dean, who set a top-flight league record of 60 goals in the 1927-28 season (a record that still stands today), helping the team win its third league title. In 1933, they won the FA Cup, and in the 1938-39 season, they won their fifth league title, becoming a strong team in English football before the war.
During the tenure of Harry Catterick from 1961 to 1973, the club won two league titles and one FA Cup, becoming the first English club to participate in European competition for five consecutive years. The Howard Kendall era from 1981 to 1987 marked the club's peak, with one European Cup Winners' Cup, two league titles, and one FA Cup, achieving a double of league and European titles in the 1984-85 season.
The club was a founding member of the Premier League in 1992 and won the FA Cup for the fifth time in 1995 (their last major trophy to date). Under David Moyes from 2002 to 2013, the club maintained a stable position in the upper-mid table of the Premier League, and in the 2004-05 season, they qualified for the Champions League.
In 2016, Farhad Moshiri acquired a stake in the club, and in 2024, Dan Friedkin took full ownership. In 2023, the club was deducted 10 points from the Premier League due to financial irregularities, the largest penalty in history, and faced similar allegations in 2024. In 2025, David Moyes returned as manager to lead the team in their fight against relegation.
