Team introduction

FC Arouca, founded on December 25, 1951, is a professional football club located in the Greater Porto area. It is an affiliated club of FC Porto. The club was initially established to participate in the Primeira Liga, but for the first fifty years, it remained in the regional leagues of Arouca. However, in 2006, the team finally advanced to the third-tier league. In just seven years, the team advanced four times and, in the 2012-13 season, made its debut in the Portuguese Primeira Liga, after which the government awarded the club a gold medal of honor.

The club was initially founded with the goal of competing in La Liga, but for the first fifty years, it remained in the regional leagues of Arrow. However, in 2006, the team finally advanced to the third-tier league. In just 7 years, the team was promoted 4 times, and in the 2012-13 season, it qualified for the Portuguese Primeira Liga for the first time. Subsequently, the government specially awarded the club a gold medal for its achievements.

In the 2015-16 season, the team, led by Lito Vidigal, achieved its best-ever result, finishing 5th in the league and qualifying for the UEFA Europa League for the first time. Unfortunately, they were relegated after losing to Olympiacos in extra time, ending their four-year run in the top league.

In 2019, Aloká was affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. They had initially secured qualification, believing the season would be shortened, but their competitor, Olhanense, appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport and successfully revoked their qualification.
