Paris Saint-Germain Football Club (abbreviated as "PSG", in English: Paris Saint-Germain F.C.) was founded in 1970, formed by the merger of Paris FC and Stade Saint-Germain. It is a professional football club based in Paris, France, nicknamed "The Red and Blue Army". The club's predecessor was known as Paris Football Club, which merged with Stade Saint-Germain. Paris Saint-Germain won its first major honor, the Coupe de France, in 1982.
In 2011, the club entered the Qatari era, with the Qatar Sports Investments fund investing approximately €50 million to acquire 70% of the club's shares, thus becoming the largest shareholder. Paris Saint-Germain became a team of the Middle East. In the summer of 2011, Paris Saint-Germain spent €91.5 million to recruit players, including world-class stars such as Neymar, Mbappé, and Messi (who has since left), rapidly enhancing the team's global influence and competitive level. Initially, the team faced setbacks in the UEFA Champions League, but ultimately transformed successfully, shifting from reliance on individual stars to a greater emphasis on teamwork and youth training, culminating in winning the pinnacle of European football in 2025 (first UEFA Champions League title).
PSG has absolute dominance in domestic competitions, having lifted the Ligue 1 championship trophy, the Coupe de France, and the Coupe de la Ligue multiple times. In 2025, they won their first UEFA Champions League title, filling the biggest gap in the club's honor roll and becoming the first team in the history of French football to achieve the remarkable feat of a domestic league, cup, and Champions League treble.
PSG is not only a symbol of French football but also one of the top clubs in Europe and even the world.
