Team Introduction

The North Macedonian national football team (abbreviated as "North Macedonia", English name: North Macedonian national football team) was established in 1948 and is managed by the Football Federation of North Macedonia as the national level football team.

The team long participated under the name "Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia" due to a dispute over its name, until it officially changed to North Macedonia in 2019. Historically, the team has been relatively weak in European football, never qualifying for the World Cup or the European Championship finals. A turning point came during the UEFA Euro 2020 qualifying, where they defeated Kosovo and Georgia in the playoffs, marking their first-ever qualification for a major tournament finals. Although they lost all three group stage matches, they achieved a historic breakthrough.

In the 2022 World Cup qualifiers, they defeated Germany away and surprisingly eliminated Italy in the playoffs. Although they ultimately lost to Portugal and missed the World Cup, they still achieved their best performance in World Cup qualifying history.
