Villarreal Club de Fútbol (commonly known as "Villarreal", in English: Villarreal CF) was founded in 1923 and is a professional football club based in Villarreal, Castellón, in eastern Spain, nicknamed "The Yellow Submarine."
The club spent most of its history in the lower divisions of Spanish football and began competing in La Liga in 1998. In the 21st century, Villarreal achieved some stable performances in the league, being relegated in 2012, bouncing back the following year, and has been competing in La Liga ever since.
The club made its debut in the UEFA Champions League in 2005, with its best achievements being the semi-finals in 2006 and 2022. During this period, Villarreal also participated in the UEFA Europa League, winning the final against Manchester United in 2021, which became one of the club's most significant achievements.
Villarreal CF is nicknamed the "Yellow Submarine" by fans due to its yellow home kit.
