FC Porto, established in 1893, is a sports club based in the northern Portuguese city of Porto, primarily focused on football. The team mainly competes in the Primeira Liga. The management is skilled at discovering potential players and buying low and selling high to increase revenue, earning the nickname "the black market of European football."
Historically, the club has won the UEFA Champions League twice. They first became champions in 1987. In 2004, they defeated Manchester United, Lyon, and Deportivo La Coruña, winning the final 3-0 against AS Monaco in Gelsenkirchen, Germany, and became European champions again after 17 years. From 1975 to 1977, they were the second team of Liverpool, winning the UEFA Cup and the Champions League in consecutive years.
The team was the champion of the first two editions of the Primeira Liga, but with the rise of Sporting CP and Benfica, they only won the league title 4 times in 45 years. It wasn't until the late 1980s that they began to sweep multiple league titles, becoming one of the most successful teams in Portugal. Porto is the only Portuguese football club to become a member of G-14.
