Portland Timbers Football Club, abbreviated as "Portland" and known in English as Portland Timbers Football Club, was established in 2009 and is a professional men's soccer club in the United States. It originated from businessman Merritt Paulson's acquisition plan in 2007, successfully upgrading the USL team to an MLS franchise.
The team joined MLS in 2011 and won its first MLS championship in 2015 under coach Caleb Porter, creating a miracle for a small market. The team's name "Timbers" pays tribute to Oregon's long forestry history, and the iconic axe logo and fans mimicking lumberjacking actions during matches have become club trademarks. The Timbers are known for developing young players, with their youth academy producing several U.S. internationals, including Darlington Nagbe.
