FC Shakhtar Donetsk, abbreviated as "Shakhtar Donetsk", was founded in 1936 and is a professional football club located in Donetsk, Ukraine.
FC Shakhtar Donetsk is one of the most legendary powerhouses in Ukrainian football, named after the miner hero Stakhanov. After Ukraine's independence, with the support of billionaire Akhmetov, the team broke the monopoly of Dynamo Kyiv, winning the Ukrainian Premier League championship more than 10 times, including a remarkable five consecutive titles from 2005 to 2014.
2009 was the peak moment for the club, as Shakhtar Donetsk eliminated strong teams like Tottenham and Marseille, and triumphed over Werder Bremen in the UEFA Cup final after extra time, winning the first European trophy for Ukrainian football. Despite multiple relocations of their home ground due to war after 2014, the team has maintained strong competitiveness, completing a league double in the 2023-24 season. On the European stage, this team, known for nurturing Brazilian foreign players, has always represented Ukrainian football. Although they could not advance beyond the group stage of the UEFA Champions League in the 2024-25 season, they continue to showcase the resilient spirit of Ukrainian football.
