Eintracht Frankfurt, abbreviated as "Frankfurt", was founded in 1899 and is a professional football club based in Frankfurt, nicknamed "The Eagles."
As one of the founding members of the Bundesliga, Frankfurt has competed in the top league for 54 seasons, making it the seventh longest participating club in Bundesliga history. It was formed by the merger of the Frankfurt Football Club and the Frankfurt Victoria Football Club, both of which were founding members of the Northern District League established in 1909.
From 1973 to 1981, Frankfurt experienced one of the most glorious periods in its history, winning the German Cup three times and the UEFA Cup in 1980.
In the 2021-22 UEFA Europa League season, Frankfurt advanced as group winners, eliminating West Ham United in the semifinals and reaching the European final for the first time since 1980. They ultimately defeated Rangers in the final, achieving an unbeaten record and securing qualification for the 2022-23 UEFA Champions League, marking Frankfurt's first return to the Champions League since 1960.
