Team Introduction

Seoul Football Club (abbreviated as 'FC Seoul', English name: Football Club Seoul) is a professional football club based in Seoul, South Korea, owned by GS Sports, a subsidiary of GS Group. It was officially established in December 1983, originally named 'Lucky Goldstar Hwangso Football Club', and is the fifth professional football team in South Korea.

In the 1985 season, with the help of Thai national player Piyapong, the club won the league championship. At the end of 1989, it moved to the Dongdaemun Stadium in Seoul and won the championship in its first season there. In 1991, it was renamed 'LG Cheetahs'. In 1996, due to the K League's decentralization policy, it moved to the satellite city of Anyang in Seoul and was renamed 'Anyang LG Cheetahs'. In 2000, under the leadership of forward Choi Yong-soo, the club won its third league championship in history.

In 2004, to address maintenance issues at the Seoul World Cup Stadium, Anyang LG Cheetahs paid 15 billion won in construction costs and moved back to Seoul, renaming themselves "FC Seoul." In 2009, they appointed Nelo Vingada as head coach, and in the 2010 season, a match against Seongnam Ilhwa attracted 60,747 spectators, setting a record for a single match in Korean professional sports. In August, they won the League Cup and subsequently defeated Jeju United in the K League Championship, achieving their first domestic double. The second leg attracted 56,769 spectators, setting a record for the championship match. The total attendance for the season reached 546,397, with an average of 32,576 spectators for both the regular season and playoffs, both of which set records.

In 2012, former player Choi Yong-soo was appointed as head coach, and in 2013, he led the team to the AFC Champions League final, where they were defeated by Guangzhou Evergrande due to the away goals rule. In June 2016, Hwang Sun-hong was appointed as head coach, and in November, they defeated Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors to win their sixth K League title in history. In October 2018, Choi Yong-soo returned to coach the team. The 2020 season saw a five-match losing streak, and after a coaching change, they finished ninth in the league. In the 2024 season, due to the league's revival and the signing of Jesse Lingard, they ranked in the upper half of the league and qualified for the 2025–26 AFC Champions League, with Lingard being appointed captain before the 2025 season.
