Fenerbahçe Sports Club (abbreviated as "Fenerbahçe", in English: Fenerbahçe Spor Kulübü) was established in 1907 and is a professional football club located in Istanbul, Turkey.
At the time of the club's founding, the Ottoman Empire had banned football, and the founders could only operate in secret. The club's emblem, designed in 1910, has been used ever since, with the yellow and blue colors symbolizing nobility and strength. Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the father of modern Turkey, was a loyal supporter of Fenerbahçe, personally donating to the club and leaving behind valuable inscriptions. During the occupation of Istanbul, Fenerbahçe won 41 out of 50 matches against foreign armies, becoming a symbol of national spirit.
The "Turkish Derby" between Fenerbahçe and Galatasaray is one of the most intense city derbies in world football, with Fenerbahçe having won 6-0 against their rivals in 2002. Although their performance in European competitions has not been outstanding, the matches where they defeated Manchester United 3-0 at home in 2004 and ended Manchester United's 40-year unbeaten home record in European competitions in 2007 are particularly memorable.
