Avispa Fukuoka, abbreviated as "Fukuoka Hornets" (Japanese: 福岡黄蜂), was established in 1982 and is located in Fukuoka City, Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan.
In 2005, the team finished second in the J2 League, the Japanese professional football second division, and was promoted directly to the J1 League, the top division of Japanese professional football. As a unique "Hornet" in Japanese football, Avispa Fukuoka maintains a technical partnership with Bordeaux Football Club in France to develop young players. Although it briefly withdrew from the J.League in 2007.
