Grenoble Foot 38, abbreviated as "Grenoble", was established in 1892 and is a professional football club located in Grenoble, the capital of the Isère department in southeastern France.
The club was promoted to Ligue 1 in the 2008-09 season but was relegated back to Ligue 2 two years later. The team's home ground is the Stade des Alpes, which has a capacity of 20,000 and was opened in 2008. Historically, the club has won the Ligue 2 championship twice and has undergone several name changes, with the current name established in 1997 through a merger. In October 2004, the club was acquired by the Japanese company Index Holdings. The team has reached the quarter-finals of the Coupe de France three times and was the runner-up in the Coupe des Alpes.
