Sanfrecce Hiroshima Football Club (abbreviated as "Sanfrecce Hiroshima", in English: Sanfrecce Hiroshima) was established in 1938 and is located in Hiroshima City, Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan.
Originally the Toyo Industries Football Department, it became a founding member of the J.League in 1991. The team name "Sanfrecce" combines the Japanese word for "three" and the plural form of the Italian word for "arrow", inspired by the legend of the three arrows of the famous Warring States general Mōri Motonari.
The team won third place in the Asian Club Championship in 1969 and has participated in the AFC Champions League multiple times since 2010. In 2015, they secured third place in the FIFA Club World Cup, showcasing the team's international competitiveness with a 2-1 comeback victory against Guangzhou Evergrande. In the 2022 Emperor's Cup final, they narrowly lost on penalties to Kofu, but finishing as runners-up in the 2024 season proves that the team still maintains a top-level standard.
