Yokohama F. Marinos, abbreviated as "Yokohama Marinos", was established in 1972 and is located in Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan.
Yokohama Marinos was formerly known as the Nissan Motors Football Club. This team from the port city of Yokohama is named "Marinos" (Spanish for "sailors") and plays its home games at the Yokohama International Stadium, which has a capacity of 72,000, making it the largest professional football stadium in Japan.
The team achieved the treble of the league, Emperor's Cup, and League Cup in the 1988-1989 season. After becoming a founding member of the J League in 1991, they dominated the Asian Cup Winners' Cup for two consecutive years in 1992-1993. They won their first J League title in 1995 and completed back-to-back league championships in 2003-2004 under the leadership of stars like Shunsuke Nakamura, solidifying their status as a powerhouse.
In 2019, under the guidance of coach Ange Postecoglou, Yokohama F. Marinos reclaimed the league title with a fast-paced attacking style of football. As one of the most successful clubs in J League history, Yokohama F. Marinos not only maintains an unbeaten record of never being relegated but has also produced many Japanese internationals, including Shunsuke Nakamura, writing their own blue legend in Japanese football.
