Gimcheon Sangmu Football Club, abbreviated as "Gimcheon Sangmu" (Korean: 김천상무), is a professional football team based in Gimcheon, South Korea, competing in K League 1. It is affiliated with the South Korean military sports department, and its players are young professional athletes who serve a two-year military service. The South Korean military had several football clubs in its early years, including teams from the Army, Marine Corps (later renamed the Navy team), and Air Force, which underwent multiple mergers, leading to the establishment of Army FC in 1969.
On January 11, 1984, Sangmu FC was established as the football team of the South Korean military sports corps, composed of K League professional players. It initially participated in semi-professional leagues and joined K League in 1985, but withdrew after just one season. Its reserve team, Sangmu B, participated in the K2 League from 2003 to 2005, finishing as runners-up in 2003, and later joined the K League reserve league.
In April 2002, a base was established in Gwangju to participate in the reserve league. In 2003, the team returned to the K League under the name Gwangju Sangmu Phoenix FC, and from 2004 to 2010, it was called Gwangju Sangmu FC. After the establishment of Gwangju FC, the team moved to Sangju, and in January 2011, it was renamed Sangju Sangmu Phoenix FC, later dropping 'Phoenix'. In 2013, the team won the newly established K League Challenge (second division) championship and was promoted to the K League Classic. Before the 2020 season, it was confirmed that the team would move out of Sangju, and after the season ended, it was relegated to K League 2.
In June 2020, Jincheon City applied to become the new home ground for the team, and after review, it was approved. The team moved to Jincheon and was renamed Jincheon Sangmu.
