Clermont Foot 63, commonly known as "Clermont", was founded in 1911 and is a professional football club based in Clermont-Ferrand, nicknamed "The Cannoneers". The club was originally named Clermont-Tuile Sports and has a history of over a century. In 1984, Clermont-Tuile Sports merged with Montferrand to form Clermont-Ferrand Football Club, which was later renamed Clermont Auvergne Football Club.
Clermont's journey has been full of ups and downs. The club briefly appeared in Ligue 1 during World War II, but has long struggled with financial difficulties, experiencing multiple relegations and even bankruptcy restructuring. In 1990, the club restarted under a new name, working its way up from lower divisions.
In 2014, Clermont appointed Helena Costa, becoming the first French professional men's team to appoint a female head coach. The 2020-21 season finally saw a historic breakthrough as they were promoted to Ligue 1 for the first time as runners-up in Ligue 2. After three seasons, they were relegated back to Ligue 2 in the 2023-24 season, but their experience in the top league proved their strength and potential.
