Málaga Club de Fútbol (abbreviated as "Málaga", English name: Málaga CF) was founded in 1948 and is a professional football club located in the city of Málaga, in the autonomous community of Andalusia, Spain.
The team was originally known as Club Deportivo Málaga, and it officially became independent and inherited its representative status after the original Málaga CF dissolved in 1992. Since its establishment, the club has experienced ups and downs, starting from lower divisions, and achieved promotion to La Liga for the first time in the 1999/2000 season, performing outstandingly in the following seasons, winning the Intertoto Cup and reaching the quarter-finals of the UEFA Cup. Despite being plagued by financial issues for a long time and having to rely on selling players to maintain operations, Málaga has still produced many excellent players and has had remarkable performances against strong teams.
In June 2010, Qatari Emir Al Thani acquired the club, repaid all debts, and invested a large amount of money in player signings, leading the team to be referred to as the "La Liga Manchester City."
