Middlesbrough Football Club (commonly known as "Middlesbrough", in English: Middlesbrough F.C.) was founded in 1876 and is a professional football club based in Middlesbrough, England.
The team is one of the founding members of the Premier League and has been relegated from the Premier League four times in its history. The most recent promotion was in the 2015-16 season when they returned to the Premier League as runners-up, but they were relegated again just a year later and are still competing in the Championship.
Middlesbrough has experienced many ups and downs throughout its long history, winning the League Cup in 2004, which marked the club's first major trophy in 128 years, and reaching the UEFA Cup final in 2006, where they finished as runners-up. The team has come close to promotion several times, including multiple appearances in the Championship play-offs, but has not been able to successfully return to the Premier League.
