Melbourne Victory Football Club (abbreviated as "MV", in English: Melbourne Victory) was established on October 28, 2004, and is a professional football club located in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. It participated in the newly formed A-League as one of the eight founding clubs, replacing the dissolved National Soccer League.
During Merrick's coaching period, the team experienced early glory. In the 2005-06 season, the team was at the top of the table midway through the season but ultimately finished second to last. In the 2006-07 season, Muscat and Merrick led the team to its first league championship in history, earning qualification for the AFC Champions League. In the 2007-08 season, the team missed the finals due to injuries and lack of experience in the AFC Champions League, but core players like Carlos Hernandez were brought in. In the 2008-09 season, the team won the Pre-Season Challenge Cup, the regular season championship, and the Grand Final championship, becoming the treble winners.
In October 2013, Postecoglou resigned as head coach of the Australian national team, and Kevin Muscat took over as head coach, marking the beginning of a new coaching era. Muscat, who had served as captain during his playing days, began to lead the team in rebuilding. In the 2014-15 season, the team signed strong reinforcements such as Besart Berisha and won the league championship, defeating Sydney FC 3-0 in the final. In 2015, the team won the Australian FA Cup, and in the 2016-17 season, they finished second but lost to Sydney FC in the final.
In July 2025, the team lost 0-3 to Wrexham AFC in the preseason match and was eliminated 4-3 in the Round of 32 of the Australian Cup. They are currently adjusting their squad for the new season.
