Perth Glory Football Club (abbreviated as "Perth Glory", in English: Perth Glory) was established on December 1, 1995, and is a professional football club located in Perth, Western Australia.
The Perth region had long expressed a desire to join the national league. After the National Soccer League was established in 1977, Western Australian teams were absent for a long time due to logistical and financial issues. In 1994, the Perth Kangaroos participated in the Singapore Premier League and won the championship, but later disbanded due to financial problems. In 1995, a consortium led by Nick Tana applied to join the NSL, and Perth Glory was granted permission to participate in the 1996-97 season, officially established on December 1.
In 1998, after Bernd Stange took over as head coach, the team reached the playoffs for the first time. In the 1999-2000 season, they won the regular season championship but lost in the finals to Wollongong Wolves after a 3-3 draw in penalties. In 2001, under coach Mick Duff, the team adopted a 4-4-2 formation to improve defense, and in 2003, they defeated Sydney Olympic 2-0 in the finals to win their first NSL championship.
In 2005, the club was renamed Perth Glory Football Club, with Steve McMahon as head coach. A misstep in the recruitment strategy led to a decline in performance, and he left in December, with Alan West taking over. In May 2006, the association terminated Tana's ownership, leaving the club without an owner. In July, Ron Smith became the head coach, and Western QBE Insurance Company resumed sponsorship of the team. In February 2007, Tony Sage and two others became the new owners. In the 2007-08 season, Smith was dismissed due to poor results, and David Mitchell took over temporarily, leading the team to 4 wins and 2 draws in the latter part of the season, finishing seventh.
In 2009, Sage became the sole owner and increased investment in recruitment. In the 2009-10 season, the team reached the A-League playoffs for the first time, but was eliminated by Wellington Phoenix in penalties. In the 2014-15 season, the team was disqualified from the playoffs for breaching the salary cap, despite finishing third. In the 2018-19 season, Popovic led the team to secure the A-League regular season championship early, ending a 15-year championship drought, but they lost in the finals to Sydney FC in penalties. In 2023, Alan Stajcic took over, and the club faced financial difficulties, with multiple changes in ownership.
