Portsmouth Football Club (abbreviated as "Portsmouth", English name: Portsmouth F.C.) was founded on June 28, 1904, and is a professional football club located in the seaside city of Portsmouth in southern England.
In its history, the club has won the English top-flight league championship twice (in 1949 and 1950) and has claimed the FA Cup twice (in 1939 and 2008). Portsmouth became a highlight in the Premier League during the 2000s, especially during the 2008 FA Cup victory when they defeated Manchester United and Cardiff City, breaking the monopoly of top clubs on the championship. However, the club subsequently fell into a long-term financial crisis, being taken over multiple times and facing point deductions, eventually relegating from the Premier League to League Two. After experiencing a takeover by a fan trust and acquisition by American businessman Mike Eisner, the team gradually stabilized.
