FC Zalgiris Vilnius (abbreviated as "Zalgiris", English name: FK Zalgiris Vilnius) was founded on May 16, 1947, and is a professional football club located in Vilnius, Lithuania.
During the Soviet era, the team first promoted to the top tier of the Soviet league in 1952, and in 1987, it achieved a highlight by finishing third in the Soviet top league, reaching the semifinals of the Soviet Cup, and representing the Soviet Union to win the World University Games by defeating South Korea. After Lithuania's independence, the team won its first Lithuanian A League championship in 1991, also claiming the Lithuanian Cup, achieving a double crown. In 2013, the team won the league championship again after a 14-year gap, and once again secured the cup championship, reviving the double crown glory. From 2020 to 2022, the team won the league and cup double for three consecutive years.
The club has undergone several key changes throughout its development. It was established in 1947 as Vilnius Dynamo, renamed Vilnius Spartakas in 1948, and officially became Zalgiris in 1962. After Lithuania declared independence in 1990, the team immediately withdrew from the Soviet top league and joined the Baltic League. In 2008, the club faced a major crisis when owner Vadim Kastuyev was arrested in Moscow, leading to a lack of funds and failing to qualify for the top league the following year.
