Samsunspor Football Club (abbreviated as "Samsunspor", in English: Samsunspor) was established on June 30, 1965, and is a professional football club located in Turkey.
The club's most glorious period came in the mid-1980s when the team finished third in the Turkish Super League for two consecutive seasons and produced the legendary striker Tanju Çolak. A major traffic accident on January 20, 1989, dealt a heavy blow to the club, as the team bus fell off a cliff, resulting in the deaths of the head coach and several players. This tragedy prompted the club to add black elements to their traditional red and white uniforms in memory.
Samsunspor experienced a stable development period in the 1990s, maintaining its position in the top league for 13 consecutive seasons and reaching the semifinals of the 1998 UEFA Intertoto Cup. After undergoing a financial crisis in recent years, the club was restructured and returned to the Turkish Super League in 2023, and historically qualified for the UEFA Europa League in 2025.
As an important part of the Black Sea Derby, the matches between Samsunspor and Trabzonspor are always filled with passion. The equestrian statue of Atatürk on the club's emblem highlights the deep historical connection this team has with the Republic of Turkey.
