Mito HollyHock Football Club (abbreviated as "Mito HollyHock", in English: Mito HollyHock) was established in 1990 and is located in Mito City, Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan. It is a professional football club in Japan.
Mito HollyHock Football Club was originally founded in 1990 by factory workers of the food company Prima Ham in Tsuchiura City, initially named Prima Aseno FC. It was later renamed Prima Ham FC Tsuchiura and after finishing as runners-up in the regional league playoffs in 1996, it was promoted to the Japan Football League. Before the start of the 1997 season, Prima Ham decided to stop its financial support for the club, leading to a merger with FC Mito (established in 1994) and the club was renamed Mito HollyHock Football Club.
The club initially applied to participate in the inaugural 1999 Japan Football League (J. League Division 2), but the application was rejected. After finishing third in the Japan Football League in 1999 and with a steadily increasing home attendance, the club was invited to join the J. League in 2000.
