Tromsø IL, abbreviated as "Tromsø", was founded on September 15, 1920, and is a football club located in Tromsø, Troms County, Norway.
The club is the northernmost professional football club in Norway, located 350 kilometers inside the Arctic Circle, and is known as the "representative of Arctic football". It won the Norwegian Cup twice in 1986 and 1996, and was the runner-up in the Eliteserien in 1990 and 2011. As a flagbearer for northern Norwegian football, Tromsø has also performed impressively in European competitions, most notably reversing a deficit against Dinamo Zagreb in the 1997 UEFA Champions League qualifiers and eliminating Galatasaray in a classic match in the 2005 UEFA Cup.
Tromsø's home ground, Alfheim Stadium, is located between magnificent fjords and snow-capped mountains, making it one of the most unique football sanctuaries in Europe. The "Midnight Sun Match" held during the summer's midnight sun period has become a football spectacle that fans from around the world long to experience. Despite its limited size, Tromsø has always held an important position in Norwegian football with its tenacious spirit and unique football culture.
