Esperance Sportive de Tunis, commonly known as "Esperance", was founded on January 15, 1919. It is a sports club located in Tunis, the capital of Tunisia, in North Africa. The club primarily competes in the Tunisian Ligue Professionnelle 1 and is the most popular and successful sports club in Tunisia.
The club has won the Tunisian Professional League championship 33 times, the Tunisian Cup 15 times, and the Tunisian Super Cup 5 times. It has also won the CAF Champions League 4 times, along with honors such as the CAF Confederation Cup and the CAF Super Cup. The club has won the Arab Club Champions Cup three times and won the Afro-Asian Club Championship in 1995. It has participated in the FIFA Club World Cup three times, achieving its best result of fifth place.
Ranked seventh among the best African clubs of the 20th century by FIFA, and also ranked fifth by the Confederation of African Football. It has a fierce rivalry with African Club, Étoile du Sahel, and Sfaxien, forming the Tunisian "Classico."
