Ulsan HD Football Club (abbreviated as "Ulsan HD", English name: Ulsan HD FC), formerly known as Ulsan Hyundai Football Club, was established on December 6, 1983. The parent company is the South Korean HD Hyundai Group. On December 13, 2023, Ulsan Hyundai announced its official name change to Ulsan HD and released a new club logo, which will be used starting from the 2024 season.
In 1984, Moon Jung-sik became the first head coach and led the team to win its first Korean Cup championship in the 1985-86 season. Starting from the 1990 season, the club moved to Ulsan. In the 1995-96 season, the team won its first K1 League championship. The team won the Korean Football League Cup in 1998, 2007, and 2011.
From 2000 to 2008, during the Kim Jong-nam era, the team won the league championship again in 2005, and in the first leg of the semifinals on April 1, 2006, they defeated Al-Shabab 6-0, showcasing their overwhelming attacking ability, earning the nickname "Asian Gangsters." In 2008, the team was renamed Ulsan Hyundai. During the Kim Ho-joon era from 2009 to 2013, they won the League Cup in 2011 and were league runners-up. In 2012, they defeated strong opponents to win their first AFC Champions League title.
From 2017 to 2024, the golden generation returned, with Kim Do-hun as head coach leading the team to win the Korean FA Cup in 2017. In the 2020 final, they defeated the Iranian club Persepolis 2-1, claiming the AFC Champions League title. In 2021, Hong Myung-bo replaced Kim Do-hun, and with the performance of Hungarian international Martin Ádám, they won the league championship and entered a new three-peat dynasty under coach Kim Pan-gon.
