Team Introduction

Atalanta Bergamasca Calcio, commonly known as "Atalanta", was founded in 1907 and is located in Bergamo, Lombardy, Italy. It is a professional football club in Italy. The nickname "La Dea" (The Goddess) is derived from Atalanta, the huntress in Greek mythology.

In 1920, it merged with a local club and won its first Serie B championship in 1928. In the 1940s, it earned the nickname "terrible provincial team" for defeating strong teams, and finished fifth in Serie A in the 1947-48 season. It won its first Coppa Italia in 1963, faced relegation to Serie C in the 1980s but rebounded, and in 1988 reached the semifinals of the European Cup Winners' Cup as a Serie B team, creating one of the best performances in European competitions for non-top-flight teams.

In the 1996-97 season, Inzaghi scored 24 goals, becoming the only Serie A top scorer in the club's history. After Gasperini took over in 2016, the team rose to prominence, finishing third in Serie A in the 2018-19 season, which qualified them for the Champions League. In the 2019-20 season, they reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League. In the 2023-24 season, they won the Europa League with a 3-0 victory over Bayer Leverkusen, marking the club's first European trophy and also returning to the Champions League.
