Team Introduction

AC Oulu Football Club (commonly known as "Oulu", English name: AC Oulu), founded in 2002, is a professional football club in the city of Oulu, Finland.

From 2003 to 2006, the club experienced relegation battles, failed attempts to reach the top division, financial losses, and a dramatic promotion in the final round. In 2007, they debuted in the top division, defeating the defending champions at the beginning of the season, but later struggled and were relegated. The season saw over 4,000 spectators, but the club suffered financial losses exceeding €400,000. In 2008, they ranked 4th in Ykkönen. In mid-2009, after reinforcements, they surged and won the league one round ahead of schedule, returning to the top division. In 2010, they competed with a squad largely composed of players who had been promoted, and narrowly avoided relegation in the final match of the season by defeating FF Jaro. At the end of the season, a scandal involving player match-fixing emerged.

In 2011, the club relocated to the Latan Stadium due to financial constraints and finished in 3rd place. From 2013 to 2017, the focus was on financial stability (budget of €450,000 to €500,000), primarily developing local players, with a consistent ranking between 4th and 7th place (5th in 2013, 4th in 2014, 5th in 2015, 4th in 2016, 4th in 2017). During this period, there were occasional highlights in the cup competitions. In 2018, the club set a goal of upgrading through sustainable methods and announced a strategic plan. They finished 4th in 2018 and 7th in 2019 after establishing a youth academy to increase the budget and aim for promotion to the top league. A coaching change was made due to initial poor performance, resulting in a financial loss despite a 22% increase in revenue.
