Hertha BSC (short for Hertha Berliner Sport-Club) was founded in 1892 and is located in Berlin, Germany. It is a professional football club in Germany.
In 1933, German football was reorganized under the Third Reich, divided into 16 top leagues, and Hertha BSC participated in the Berlin-Brandenburg league. The club continued to perform well in the league, often finishing in the upper half of the standings, and won the league championship in 1935, 1937, and 1944.
When the Bundesliga was established in 1963, Hertha BSC was the defending champion of Berlin, thus becoming one of the first members of the newly formed professional national league. Although the team ultimately did not escape the relegation zone, they were relegated after the 1964-65 season due to attempts to bribe players to play in Berlin.
In the 2010-11 season, Hertha spent time in the 2. Bundesliga, and then, with three matchdays remaining in the season, they successfully returned to the Bundesliga for the 2011-12 season by defeating Duisburg 1-0. However, Hertha ultimately finished 16th in the 2011-12 Bundesliga season and lost to Düsseldorf in the relegation playoff, resulting in their drop to the 2. Bundesliga. In the 2012-13 season, Hertha BSC was promoted from the 2. Bundesliga as champions, marking the second title for the team in three seasons. In the first round of the 2013-14 season, Hertha BSC achieved a 6-1 victory over Frankfurt at the Olympic Stadium, topping the Bundesliga standings after the first round of matches.
