Charlton Athletic Football Club (abbreviated as "Charlton", English name: Charlton Athletic F.C.) was founded on January 1, 1905, and is a professional football club located in England.
The team has a long history in English football, having competed in the top league for many years until gradually fading from the top stage after the 1957/58 season. The late 1990s to early 2000s was a glorious period for Charlton, as they were promoted to the Premier League twice and maintained a top-flight position from 2000 to 2007 for seven years. However, the team has since experienced ups and downs, being relegated to the Championship and League One.
The club has a special nickname "The Addicks", which is said to have originated from the amusing story of early players having to change at a nearby fish and chip shop. They borrowed the name of the shop's black haddock to name the team, and this nickname has been used ever since.
