Team Introduction

Tokyo Verdy Football Club (abbreviated as "Tokyo Verdy", English name: Tokyo Verdy) was established in 1939 and is located in Nagoya City, Aichi Prefecture, Japan.

Tokyo Verdy's predecessor was the Yomiuri Football Club. As one of the founding members of the J.League, this team, named after the Portuguese word "verde" meaning "green", was renamed Kawasaki Verdy due to issues with its home ground. After moving back to Tokyo in 2001, it adopted its current name. After 16 years in the lower leagues, Tokyo Verdy returned to the J1 League in 2023 by finishing third in J2 and winning the promotion playoff, fulfilling its long-held dream of returning to the top division.

The inclusion of "1969" in the team's name not only highlights its long history but also symbolizes the unwavering spirit of this veteran powerhouse on the pitch. The journey from Kawasaki to Tokyo is a vivid reflection of the development of professional football in Japan.
