Team Introduction

Famalicão Football Club (abbreviated as "Famalicão", English name: FC Famalicão) was founded on August 21, 1931, and is a professional football club from the new city of Famalicão in Portugal.

The club won the championship in its first participation in the regional promotion tournament during the 1932-33 season. Later, in the 1945-46 season, under the guidance of coach Nosh Sabo, the club reached the semifinals of the Portuguese Cup but suffered a heavy defeat to Sporting CP. In the following years, the team did not show much improvement, only reaching the Primeira Liga once in the 1978-79 season, until 1990, when the club experienced a resurgence, qualifying for the Primeira Liga for four consecutive years.

After 2000, the team quickly declined, falling to regional championships and even reaching the fifth-tier league in the Bugala Football Association district league. Until 2015, the team finally returned to the second division after 19 years and won the group stage in the higher championship. In the 2018-19 season, the club was acquired by Israeli businessman Idan Ofer, becoming the largest shareholder, and led the team to promotion to the top league in 2019 after 25 years. In January 2020, the team defeated Ferreira 1-0, reaching the cup semifinals for the first time since 1946.
