FC Tokyo Football Club (abbreviated as "FC Tokyo", English name: FC Tokyo) was established in 1935 and is located in Tokyo, Japan.
FC Tokyo was officially professionalized in 1998 with the joint investment of several local Tokyo companies and joined the J.League in 1999. Unlike other clubs that symbolize animals, the team's name is simple and clear, highlighting the essence of football with the abbreviation "Football Club."
The team showcased strong strength in the early days of professionalization, finishing 7th in the J1 League in their first season. In 2003, they achieved their best historical performance by finishing 4th in the league, and in 2004, they won the league cup for the first time. In 2009, the team celebrated its tenth anniversary, not only launching a raccoon mascot named "Dorompa" but also lifting the league cup trophy again. However, they then encountered the curse of "the league cup champion being relegated the following year," and unfortunately dropped to the J2 League in 2010.
Under the leadership of the accomplished coach Kiyoshi Okuma, Tokyo FC returned to the top league as J2 champions in just one year, and in 2011, they made history by winning the Emperor's Cup for the first time and qualifying for the AFC Champions League. This team, rooted in Tokyo, has always called Ajinomoto Stadium home, demonstrating the resilience and depth of a capital city team through ups and downs.
