FC Volendam, established in 1977, is a professional football club located in Volendam, Netherlands. The club's predecessor, 'de Palingboeren', was founded in 1920 and was originally named 'Victoria'. It was renamed RKSV Volendam in 1923, and after separating from its parent club in 1977, it was renamed FC Volendam, becoming a fully professional club.
In December 1971, the club signed Portuguese player Walter Ferreira on an 18-month contract, becoming the first foreign player in the league and making history. The period from 1987 to 1997 was the club's golden era, with the team achieving its best-ever performance in the Eredivisie during the 1989-90 season, finishing sixth with 39 points. The team remained in the Eredivisie for the entire decade, marking the longest period in the club's history in the top flight.
In 2012, the team signed coach Koning from Helmond Sport. In the 2012-13 season, FC Volendam finished second after losing to FC Emmen and achieved a temporary championship. However, they were defeated by FC Emmen again in the playoffs, missing out on promotion, marking the first time in the club's history that they spent five consecutive years in the second division.
