Hamburger Sport-Verein (abbreviated as "Hamburg", English name: Hamburger SV) was founded in 1887 and is located in Hamburg, Germany. It is a German professional football club.
By 2025, Hamburger SV has won the German national championship six times, the DFB-Pokal three times, and the former League Cup twice. The club's most glorious period was from the mid-1970s to the mid-1980s, during which they not only won several domestic honors but also claimed the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup in 1976-77 and the European Cup in 1982-83.
Until the 2017-18 season of the Bundesliga, Hamburg was the only team that had continuously played in the top tier of the German football league system since the club's establishment after World War I. On May 11, 2025, in the 33rd round of the 2024-25 season of the 2. Bundesliga, Hamburger SV won 6-1 against FC Ulm, securing a top 2 finish in the league and earning promotion back to the Bundesliga after a 7-season absence.
