Holstein Kiel, abbreviated as "Holstein", is a German professional football and sports club founded in 1902, located in Kiel, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany.
The club was formed by the merger of two teams on October 7, 1900, focusing on gymnastics, athletics, and other sports. The football club was officially established in 1902 and was one of the most dominant teams in northern Germany from the 1900s to the 1960s, winning many honors, including the German Football Championship, finishing as runners-up in 1910 and 1930; six regional championships and nine runners-up finishes.
Promoted to the 2. Bundesliga in 2017 after a 36-year absence, but frequently missed opportunities to be promoted to the Bundesliga. On May 11, 2024, they achieved promotion to the Bundesliga for the first time, making their debut in the Bundesliga in the 2024-25 season.
