Getafe Club de Fútbol (commonly known as "Getafe", in English: Getafe Club), was founded in 1983 and is a professional football club located in Getafe, Madrid, Spain, nicknamed "The Clogs". Its predecessor was known as Getafe Deportivo, founded in 1923, and on July 10, 1982, the team merged with the older Getafe Promesas club and registered with the Castile regional federation.
The club was established in 1946 and was restructured in 1983. In the 2004-05 season, Getafe was promoted to La Liga for the first time in its history, and since then, except for a few seasons of relegation, it has mostly remained stable in La Liga, becoming one of the regulars in the top division.
In the 2015-16 season, Getafe was relegated to the Segunda División after 12 years in La Liga. In the 2016-17 season, they immediately returned to La Liga by defeating Huesca and Tenerife in the playoffs. In the 2017-18 season, Getafe ultimately finished eighth, avoiding the fate of relegation back to the Segunda División.
