Gil Vicente Football Club (abbreviated as "Gil Vicente", English name: Gil Vicente F.C.) was founded on May 3, 1924, and is a professional football club based in Barcelos, Portugal.
In 1943, the team was promoted to the Second Division and began participating in national competitions, officially stepping out of the regional level. The match against Tui in April 1953 was the club's first recorded overseas match. In the 1976-77 season, the team reached the semifinals of the Portuguese Cup, achieving the best result in the club's history.
After 1980, the club's strength significantly improved. Under the leadership of Rudolf Reiss, the team won the Northern Division championship and advanced to the playoffs, where they finished as runners-up. A major controversy arose when the match against Maya was interrupted due to a power failure with 16 minutes remaining, while the team was leading 2-0, and they later requested a replay.
