Karlsruher SC, abbreviated as "Karlsruhe", was founded in 1896 and is located in Karlsruhe, the third largest city in Baden-Württemberg, southwestern Germany. It is a professional football club in Germany.
Karlsruher SC won the German Championship in 1909 and the DFB-Pokal in 1955 and 1956. In Europe, Karlsruher SC won the UEFA Intertoto Cup in 1996.
In the 2007-08 season, they returned to the Bundesliga, finishing in 11th place. After qualifying for European competitions, the team's form declined in the second half of the season. In the 2008-09 season, the club continued to perform poorly, ultimately finishing in 17th place and being relegated back to the 2. Bundesliga. Karlsruhe ended the 2. Bundesliga season in 16th place and faced Regensburg in the relegation playoff. The two teams drew 1-1 in Regensburg and 2-2 in Karlsruhe. This meant that Karlsruhe was relegated to the third division after 12 years based on the away goals rule. The 2012-13 season saw a successful rebound, as they won the 3. Liga championship and were promoted back to the 2. Bundesliga.
