Team Introduction

Las Palmas Athletic Union Football Club (abbreviated as "Las Palmas", English name: UD Las Palmas), founded in 1949, is a professional football club located in Gran Canaria, Canary Islands, Spain, nicknamed "The Canaries."

Since its establishment, the club has primarily used yellow and blue as its main and secondary colors. They have a fierce rivalry with the neighboring island of Tenerife, and the matches between the two teams are referred to as the Canary Islands Derby. These two clubs are among the most isolated professional football clubs in Europe, as they are located at the farthest end of the Spanish mainland, making away games require almost crossing the entire Spanish mainland.

Since the 1990s, Las Palmas has primarily played in the second division, but it also spent six years in the third tier, which was created in 1977, and participated in La Liga from 2000 to 2002. On October 3, 2001, the team won 4-2 at home against Real Madrid, with young player Rubén Castro scoring two goals for the hosts, but the season ultimately ended in relegation. On December 22, 2001, Las Palmas played its 1000th match in La Liga.

In 2024, Mallorca reached the Copa del Rey final for the first time since winning it in 2003.
