The Romania national men's football team (abbreviated as "Romania", English name: Romania national football team) was established in 1909 and is managed by the Romanian Football Federation as a national-level football team.
Romania maintained a record of participating in three consecutive tournaments from 1930 to 1938 alongside Brazil and France, showcasing the early strength of Eastern European football. After over forty years of silence post-war, the 1970 FIFA World Cup in Mexico became their only stage appearance.
The turning point came in the 1990s, as Steaua Bucharest achieved remarkable success in European competitions, and the national team entered a golden era, qualifying for three consecutive World Cups (1990, 1994, 1998) and advancing beyond the group stage in all of them. The 1994 World Cup in the USA was a highlight, where the "Carpathian Maradona" led by Hagi defeated strong teams like Colombia and Argentina, ultimately reaching the quarter-finals after a hard-fought penalty shootout against Sweden.
