Borussia Mönchengladbach, abbreviated as "Mönchengladbach" and known in English as Borussia Mönchengladbach, was founded in 1900 and is a professional football club located in Mönchengladbach, North Rhine-Westphalia. They are nicknamed "Die Fohlen" and are the fifth largest club in Germany.
The years 1970-1980 were the golden decade for the team and are considered the most successful period in the club's history. Under the leadership of head coach Hennes Weisweiler, they won the championship five times, more than any other team. They were promoted to the Bundesliga in 1965 alongside Bayern Munich.
In the 1980s, Borussia Dortmund was unable to consolidate the championship titles accumulated over the past decade, falling behind Bayern Munich. Due to insufficient ticket revenue from the smaller BVB Stadion, the club had to repeatedly sell top players.
