Millwall Football Club, commonly known as "Millwall", was founded in 1885 and is a professional football club located in the seaside city of Portsmouth in southern England.
The club was originally formed by a group of workers and was named "Millwall Rangers", later changing its name to "Millwall Athletic" in 1889. Millwall has won championships in the Southern League, as well as in the fourth, third, and second tiers of English football. They have also won the Football League Trophy twice and reached the FA Cup final in the 2003/04 season, finishing as runners-up. Millwall joined the English Football League system in 1920 and achieved consecutive promotions in the mid-1960s. In the 1987/88 season, the team was promoted to the top tier of English football for the first time. In the 2004/05 season, Millwall briefly participated in the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup.
