Team Introduction

Melbourne City Football Club (abbreviated as "Melbourne City", English name: Melbourne City FC) was established on June 12, 2009, and is a professional football club located in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. The club was originally named Melbourne Heart.

In August 2010, Melbourne Heart made its A-League debut at AAMI Park against the Central Coast Mariners. In the fifth round of the first season, they achieved their first victory in club history by defeating the North Queensland Fury 1-0. In the 2016 FFA Cup final, the team defeated Sydney FC to lift their first major tournament trophy. In the 2019-20 season, the newly signed Jamie Maclaren won the Golden Boot with 22 goals, leading the team to their first A-League Grand Final. In the 2020-21 season, the team secured the regular season championship three rounds early, and then defeated Sydney FC 3-1 in the Grand Final, achieving their first league double.

The most critical change in the club's development was the change of ownership. In January 2014, City Football Group, in partnership with an Australian holding company, acquired Melbourne Heart for $12 million, with City Football Group holding an 80% stake. The team was subsequently renamed Melbourne City. In August 2015, City Football Group acquired the remaining 20% stake, achieving full control of the club.
