Sagan Tosu (officially Sagan Tosu Football Club), founded in 1997, is a Japanese professional football club based in Tosu City, Saga Prefecture, in the Kyushu region of Japan. Its predecessor was Tosu Future Football Club, which was forced to disband in 1997 due to financial problems. In 2012, the team made its first appearance in the J1 League, surprising many commentators, and was immediately relegated to the J2 League. In 2013, the team reached the semi-finals of the Emperor's Cup for the first time in its history, becoming the first team from Kyushu to reach the semi-finals since the Nippon Steel Yawata team in 1981.
