AJ Auxerre, abbreviated as "Auxerre", was founded in 1905 and is located in Auxerre, Burgundy, France. It is a French professional football club. In the 2023-24 season, they performed excellently in Ligue 2 and were promoted to Ligue 1 for the 2024-25 season.
They made their debut in Ligue 1 during the 1980-81 season and remained until the 2011-12 season. They won the Ligue 1 championship in the 1995-96 season. On May 13, 2012, Auxerre lost 0-3 away to Marseille, ending a 32-year career in Ligue 1. They experienced ups and downs afterward, returning to Ligue 1 in the 2022-23 season, but were relegated back to Ligue 2 after one season. They returned to Ligue 1 again in the 2023-24 season.
Since its establishment, Auxerre has nurtured several stars, including Eric Cantona, Laurent Blanc, Stéphane Guivarc'h, Philippe Mexès, Basile Boli, and Djibril Cissé, all of whom have been selected for the French national team.
